Logistically, as a Alaska resident, it’s pretty simple. There are multiple flights a day from Anchorage to the city of Kodiak and round-trip tickets are usually less than $300. Then once in Kodiak, walk across the parking lot to the Island Air office, shuttle ride from there down to the basin where you jump in a float plane and fly out to your hunt location. For me, logistically speaking, it’s probably one of the easiest hunts to plan/prepare for.

Cool. Did you draw a tag or hunt the registration area (i.e, what general area did you visit)? I could scour my brain to try and recognize the mountains, but even my somewhat encyclopedic knowledge of Kodiak may get taxed, lol.

It looks like you were on the west side of that lake. The first time I hiked across Kodiak it was from town (Kodiak) to Uganik Bay and the scariest slope I encountered the whole way was the one in the middle of that pic you just posted when I descended off the saddle, down to the lake shore, and scared the s**t out of myself a long, steep snow slope. Holy fudge. At about 3:42 in this video/slideshow is the area I think you hunted (albeit shown in midsummer back, years ago, when Alaska still received snow- I mean, look at the amount of snow next to blooming flowers in July!). It’s all cool country, no doubt. I miss our former climate though.

I could say the same mostly in Colorado . While we receive snow lately ... it’s been a lot wetter , muddier and not as dry and cold .

I completely agree, and I miss it as well, although when I arrived at work this morning,I started wondering what it was that I missed so much.

I do miss big snow years although, I don’t miss big winter black tail kills.
